Bomb Diggity! Maybe I’m just desperate for something semi-decent to watch, but I was pretty entertained by this ridiculously titled, oddly cast, flick.

Yeah, it doesn’t look like much from the trailers, and honestly, it isn’t that much, but it’s that strange mix of Chinese kung-fu and Caucasian humor which I happen to eat up with a spoon. Then again, I am asian. So the story is weird and supernatural and I’d love to BS it to you but I fell asleep while they were explaining the plot so you’ll have to figure it out for yourself. ……..…….. I was tired!! Anger Management drained me ok! Anyway, basically Chow Yun Fat is a Buddhist Monk who brings with him Buddhist scriptures that would give powers of the Holy Grail to the person who holds them to America. Chasing him is a strange retro Nazi man because he wants the powers to dominate Aryan race supremacy all over the world. Sound familiar? Anyway, Fat is getting old and he needs to pass on his powers to an apprentice. Instead of choosing another monk, he picks a really hot white boy (hey, I would have done the exact same thing) to take his place. The two go about escaping from Hitl…I mean crazy Nazi man and learn a lot about life and each other.

Ok, that last part was a lie. There is no learning in this film. Well, at least I refused to learn from this film. The movie is basically banter and kung-fu. Most of the kung-fu shown today is really nothing because so many movies have made it almost obsolete to fly around and stuff but there’s something still kind of mystical about this one. Maybe it’s because of the Buddhism but a lot of the moves were fairly unique and not so trivial. I also wasn’t cringing at Fat’s acting (Li in “Cradle 2 the Grave”…shudders). This guy is a legend in Hong Kong and it should be no different here. Mad props to John Woo’s boy. The movie also gets bonus points for having Stifler as the Caucasian Comic Relief. I love him. He’s funny, cute, and super ripped in the movie! Yummmmmmm… (so close to being shirtless too… damn you PG-13!).

Ok, so bottom line is Stifler + ripped + almost nude = a winner in my book. Apparently it’s also a winner in Frey’s book because he dug the movie too. Ok maybe that was for Jaime (formerly James) King. Yeah she’s pretty good too. Ok so reworking formula, Stifler + ripped + almost nude + hot chicks = good stuff. My reviews are a science baby.

I don't know if I only liked this movie because I saw it after Anger Management. After that piece of crap, anything is good. This movie was by no means great. But it was entertaining for the most part.

Bulletproof Monk has a very cliche plot. Heroes need keep an object that has the potential to destroy the world safe from the evildoers. In this case, it's a scroll, that when read, can either make the world heaven or hell. Back in the day, the Tibetan monks decided that humans are not ready for this kind of power. So ever since, it's been protected by a chosen one, who changes every 60 years. Chow Yun Fat is the most recent protector and his term is coming to an end. While running from Nazis who are after the scroll, he runs into Stifler (his name in the movie is Kar, but he will forever be Stifler) who just might be the next protector.

The movie is pretty corny and the dialogue could use a lot of work, but what do you really expect with a title like Bulletproof Monk. It was fun to watch the action scenes and Stifler and Chow Yun Fat have pretty good chemistry. Who knew Stifler could kick some ass. It was also a refreshing change to see him in another role. The fight scenes are a lot better than those in Jet Li movies. I think Jet Li needs a better fight choreographer or something because I know he's capable of better. But anyway, although there was nothing that made me go "wow" they were still fun.

I also really enjoyed how the movie ended. It's a pretty typical good wins over evil but there's a slight twist that makes it better. So if you're one of those people who don't want to watch the movie because of the lame title, I would suggest reconsidering. I agree the title is lame. But the movie actually isn't bad. But just in case, maybe you'd better watch Anger Management first.
