Scuz:

Funny…but not funnierer than the first one.

Heh, I like stupid comedies where people do and say ridiculous things. Thus, even though “Dumb and Dumberer: When Harry Met Lloyd” looked like this summer’s, or even the year’s stupidest and lamest film, I still decided to take a chance on it. I’m not regretful that I did, because going in with such low expectations left me mildly amused at the “specialness” of these two guys. An anti-thinking movie to the max.

So, even though the title suggests it, this movie has nothing to do with “When Harry Met Sally” whatsoever. In fact, this movie has to do with basically nothing, kind of like a Seinfeld episode (well not that good). It focuses on the antics of Harry and Lloyd and like the first one, there is the obligatory love triangle, feces fiasco, and break up and makeup scenes. The plot, though probably more or less unnecessary is about how the principle of their high school is embezzling money by instituting a fake “special needs” class. So a bunch of normal kids enroll themselves into the class to avoid homework and real school, and are led around by Harry and Lloyd. Obviously disaster ensues.

Like many comedies, some of the jokes work and some don’t. For instance, Harry and Lloyd randomly falling out of the ceiling…nuh uh. Lloyd saying “Chicks are for fags.” =D. There’s a trade off of funny and not funny attempts in the film and those that work can be highly enjoyable whereas you can at least appreciate the efforts of the others.

Casting decisions for this film were totally right on. The guy who plays Lloyd completely masters Jim Carrey and gives an awesome effort in trying to mimic the unequivocal comedian. Cheri Oteri and Eugene Levy were also nice surprises since both those guys are absolutely hilarious even by themselves. And the reporter with nice “milk bubbles” was pretty cute too and held her own nicely against the two guys.

Ok, some people are going to watch this and hate it, I don’t deny this. If you didn’t like the first one, it’s highly doubtful you’ll like the second. Even if you loved the first one, it’s still highly doubtful you’ll like the second one as they are by no means a similar movie except for the names of the characters (btw, I loved the first one). So, I guess if you’re tired of having to think during a movie this summer, then…don’t bother! Just watch “Dumb and Dumberer.”
