![]() ![]() ![]() I really wanted to like this movie more. It had so much promise. I love dragons. I love CGI movies. I love fantasy battles. And I love hot guys. These were all topics that they could have exploited...but they didn't, and that was somewhat of a disappointment. The story is fairly simple. In 2020, the world is supposed to be decimated and taken over by fire breathing bad ass mofo dragons. Humans are endangered and live in seclusion. Man, what's up with the world being taken over by monsters. That's like the new fad...MIB, Eight Legged Freaks (8LF), and now this...what's next, a midget revolution? Anyway, I had no problem with the story. Even though it's similar to 8LF, it's different because 8LF knows that it's a dorky premise and treats the movie as such. Reign of Fire is serious about the material, which is fine...but somehow they decided to go more drama than fantasy which bored me a little. I mean the movie shouldn't try to achieve much more than many cool fight scenes with the CGI beasts but they had a lot of dialogue that was kind of meaningless filler. I rather see violence and gore but that may just be me. The acting in the movie is also kind of weak. Both guys try to constantly trump each other as the super intense troubled protagonist. ALSO, a MAJOR PROBLEM I HAD was with the gratuitous nudity, or the LACK THEREOF IT. The commercials promised so many hot scenes with Matthew McConaughey and Christian Bale with their shirts off and the movie had like nil?! WTF?! Why did they go get all hot and studly and not even strut it?! I was severely disappointed with that fact. Maybe I'll need to get the DVD with all the cut out nude scenes. The scenery and the mood of the movie is great. I truly believe that they are in this hell like world once known as earth. I also really like the dragons which looked like some of the best CGI dragons I have ever seen. The only problem I had was that they didn't show enough of it! The lighting on the dragons was really dark and there were only a couple of scenes where they appear and whoop ass as the awesome force that they are. I would have really liked to see more dragons...and MORE SHIRTLESS Matthew McConaughey and Christian Bale fighting dragons! Sorry I need to get over this...*sob sob* Reign of Fire is still pretty cool though. I like this type of movie a lot and I guess I was just expecting a lot more from it. Well, strangely a lot more and a lot less. I didn't need this forced dramatic conflict that they tried to add. Just give me more action, more gore, more violence, and MORE SHIRTLESS Matthew McConaughey and Christian Bale! <~~~ (last time i swear) |
